Stovetop Omnia Oven

While you can make this recipe in an RV oven, the Omnia stovetop oven makes it possible to enjoy a delicious apple dessert wherever (or however) you camp.

The Omnia oven is a small and portable stove oven that lets you bake, cook, and grill tasty meals while camping. It’s made for gas stovetops, electric hot plates, and camping stoves.

The Omnia oven evenly spreads heat, just like a lighter Dutch oven. It can hold up to 2.1 quarts of food and weighs only 1.8 lbs. That’s about 1/4 the weight of a regular Dutch oven with the same capacity.

The Omnia oven is so versatile you can use it to make all kinds of food, such as:

  • fresh bread
  • cakes
  • muffins
  • quiche
  • casseroles
  • roasted meat
  • hashbrowns and potatoes
  • lasagna
  • calzone and pizza
  • … and so much more!

Choosing the Best Apples for Baking

To create the perfect recipe, it’s essential to choose the right kind of apples. While there are many apple varieties available, some work better for baking than others.

Tart apples like Pink Lady or Granny Smith apples hold their shape well when cooked and provide a nice contrast to the sweet filling.

If you prefer sweeter, softer apples, try Honeycrisp or Fuji apples. These sweet apples will become tender and juicy when baked.

Preparing the Apple Filling

Before we dive into the recipe, let’s gather the ingredients and start preparing the filling for our baked apples. In a large bowl, mix together softened butter, honey, cinnamon, chopped pecans, and a squeeze of lemon juice.

This mixture will create a fragrant and flavorful filling that complements the natural sweetness of the apples. Be sure to fill each hollowed-out apple generously with the nut mixture for a delicious burst of flavor in every bite.

How to Make Baked Apples on the Stove

Now that our apples are filled, it’s time to bake them using the Omnia oven. Grease the Omnia Pan with butter or oil to prevent sticking, and arrange the apples in the pan with the hollowed side facing up.

Next, pour apple juice into the bottom of the pan to provide moisture and enhance the flavors. Cover the pan and place it on the stovetop at medium heat for approximately 40 minutes.

Cooking times may vary depending on the apple variety used, so keep an eye on the apples until they are soft and tender.

What to Serve with Baked Apples

Once they are cooked to perfection, remove the pan from the heat and let the apples cool slightly. Serve them warm on their own as a delightful dessert.

Or, for an extra treat, top each apple with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The combination of warm apples and cold ice cream is simply irresistible!

Baked apples also make a great side dish, especially when paired with pork chops or crockpot French toast casserole.

Storing Leftovers & How to Use Them

If you have any leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator or high-ice retention ice chest. The baked apples can be enjoyed the next morning as a tasty breakfast or a quick snack.

Alternatively, you can use any remaining baked apples for homemade apple pie filling or as a topping for oatmeal. You can even use them in our Pie Iron Grilled Cheese with Caramelized Apples recipe.
