It may look like ranch dressing, but this Alabama white BBQ sauce recipe adds a tangy kick with its apple cider vinegar and Worcestershire sauce combo…

Alabama BBQ sauce is a mayonnaise-based sauce that uses tangy vinegar and a hint of spice to delight your taste buds. This versatile condiment goes great on almost anything, including poultry, pork, fish, and potatoes (fried or baked!).

You can brush it on meat while grilling or use it as a dipping sauce or salad dressing.

The original recipe, as far as anyone can tell, was created by Robert Gibson of Big Bob Gibson Bar-b-q in Northern Alabama back in the 1920s. It certainly was made famous by him.

Where Can You Buy White Barbeque Sauce?

Big Bob’s restaurant is still in the family today, with two locations in Decatur, AL. If you’re ever RVing through North Alabama, it’s worth the stop. You can also buy Big Bob Gibson’s bar-b-q white sauce in grocery stores in Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, Georgia, and Florida.

Or, you can buy Big Bob Gibson’s Original White Sauce on Amazon.

Better yet, you can make your own Alabama white sauce! It’s a very easy sauce to make and only requires basic ingredients.

What Is Alabama White Sauce Good On?

We’re not exaggerating when we say this sauce is versatile, but it goes best on “white meats,” like chicken, pork, and fish. It works great as a finishing sauce, which you brush on the meat at the end of cooking.

But that’s not all…

Alabama white barbecue sauce is also an excellent dip for french fries, chicken wings, chicken tenders, fried chicken, and basically anything else you like to dip! Some people even like it as a salad dressing.

We love combining our white sauce recipe with our Healthy Grilled Turkey Burger Recipe. You can brush the tangy sauce on the turkey burgers at the very end of your grilling or spread it on the bun. Either way, it’s a delicious combo!

So, clearly, it’s a great addition to your table sauce collection. You can store it in a mason jar or in these nifty squeeze bottles. Homemade white bbq sauce is good for about a week in the refrigerator.

It may look like ranch dressing, but this creamy white BBQ sauce adds a tangy kick with its apple cider vinegar and Worcestershire sauce combo. It’s delicious on BBQ chicken, grilled turkey burgers, fish, pork chops, and much more. Brush it on meat while grilling, or use it as a dip!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup 1 mayonnaise

  • 1/4 cup 1/4 apple cider vinegar

  • 1-1/2 tsp 1-1/2 Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tsp 1 ground black pepper

  • 1/2 tsp 1/2 salt

  • 1/2 tsp 1/2 garlic powder

  • 1/4 tsp 1/4 cayenne pepper

  • 2 tsp 2 horseradish (optional for more spiciness)

Directions

  • Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl and whisk until smooth.

Notes

  • For a thinner sauce, add 1 Tbsp of water at a time until you reach desired consistency (too much water will dilute the flavor). Or, thin it with additional apple cider, which will give it some extra kick.
  • This BBQ sauce does not freeze well, but it refrigerates well for about a week if you keep it stored in an airtight container.
