Make box cake taste homemade with this doctored cake mix with pudding recipe! We know it seems too good to be true, but wait until you taste it…

We were shocked the first time we made this recipe. It really tastes delicious despite the main ingredients coming from a box!

We think you’ll be surprised, too, at how rich and moist this doctored cake turns out.

It’s a great cake recipe for RVers because it requires minimal ingredients, most of which you’re probably packing anyway. So, it’s the perfect way to satisfy your sweet tooth when on the road.

Important Disclaimer

The cake from this recipe has a tendency to collapse, especially if you’re not using a bundt cake pan. But as RVers, we don’t really care if the cake looks lopsided.

We just care that it tastes great… and this cake does!

However, if you want a pretty cake, then this recipe probably isn’t for you. It might turn out perfectly… or it might collapse. That shows how wonderfully moist and fluffy it can be, but you’ll have to decide if you’re willing to risk eating a sad-looking (yet delicious) cake.

Quick Tips for Making this Recipe in an RV Oven

This recipe couldn’t be any easier, but we know many RVers have trouble baking in their RV ovens. They often get burnt or unevenly-cooked results… or both.

If that’s you, be sure to read our sister site’s 7 Tips for Cooking in an RV Oven. Here’s a quick rundown of what RV Lifestyle suggests:

Cake Mix and Pudding Combinations

The simplest way to make this recipe is to use the same flavor cake mix and pudding mix. For instance, chocolate cake mix with chocolate pudding. (You can even add chocolate chips to make a triple chocolate cake!)

However, you can have some fun with complementary flavors, too! You can try some of the following combos or come up with your own:

  • Red velvet cake mix & chocolate pudding mix
  • Strawberry cake mix & cheesecake pudding mix
  • Orange cake mix & vanilla pudding mix
  • Lemon cake mix & vanilla pudding mix

(Did you know you can buy an assorted cake mix bundle on Amazon? All three cake flavors go great with this vanilla pudding 3-pack.)

Just keep in mind that the colors will mix! So if, for instance, you mix strawberry cake mix and chocolate pudding mix, it’ll probably turn out a pinkish brown.

If you don’t care about appearance, only flavor, then mix whatever flavors together šŸ™‚
