Whether you’re setting up camp under the stars or hitting the road in your RV, you don’t need a bunch of cooking gadgets to make great food. All you need is aluminum foil and a few basic ingredients.

This recipe for sausage & potato foil packets is the perfect solution.

It’s incredibly easy to prepare with minimal cleanup, and delivers on flavor. It’s a hearty and satisfying meal that can be cooked on a camping grill, in an RV oven, or even over a crackling campfire.

Tips for Perfect Sausage & Potato Foil Packets

  • Use Heavy Duty Aluminum Foil: Opt for heavy-duty foil so you’ll get a better cook. Plus, it’s less likely to tear and dump out all of your food.
  • Seal Your Packets Well: A tight seal on your foil packets ensures that the steam created during cooking stays inside to cook the food thoroughly. Be sure to double-fold the edges for extra security. Here’s a simple how-to video.
  • Ingredient Variation: While smoked sausage and Yukon gold potatoes are a fantastic combination, feel free to mix up the recipe with different vegetables or protein options. Bell peppers, onions, sweet potatoes, or chicken pieces can add a new dimension to your meal.
  • Even Pieces, Even Cooking: Cutting your sausage and potatoes into uniform, 1-inch pieces ensures each component cooks evenly, resulting in a perfect bite every time.
  • Don’t Forget the Seasoning: This recipe is customizable when it comes to seasoning. While salt and pepper are the staples, consider sprinkling in some garlic powder, smoked paprika, or a touch of cayenne for those who like a little heat.
  • Test for Doneness: To avoid under or overcooking, carefully open a packet (watch out for steam) and test a potato piece with a fork. It should be tender and easy to pierce when done.

With these tips in mind, here is the simple recipe…
